Nina & Mariska - Vredenheim - 2 May 2014

Their story
They met in the beginning of 2011 on campus at Stellenbosch University.  For Nina it was love at first sight.  Mariska was considering to get a restraining order against her newest stalker.  But three months later Nina’s attempts to win her heart paid off and Mariska made the first move at the Mystic Boer.  The kiss was intoxicating and since then they’ve been inseparable.

How did she propose?  Mariska planned a surprise picnic at Morgenhof Wine Estate.  It was a rainy day, but this didn’t stop the magic.  They had a beautiful picnic underneath an umbrella and a big oak tree surrounded by the beautiful gardens and soft rain.  Nina was too busy taking selfies to realize the ring right in front of her plate.  Mariska was having a semi-seizure trying to draw her attention towards the ring.  When Nina finally saw the ring everything started spinning and Mariska made a beautiful speech, which neither can recall, but the answer was undeniably YES!

Wedding decor:  Karin Brittz (Barrique) handled everything and the couple didn’t need to lift a finger.  They chose white, with a touch of colourfulness.

Special/unexpected touches:

The budget didn’t allow cake or flowers... But Karin Brittz and Nina’s maid of honour, Carmen Rudman (together with the very gorgeous Heini Brittz), decided to surprise them with beautiful flowers, a rainbow wedding cake and colourful cupcakes.

Despite it being risky to have an outside wedding in May, we were blessed to have awesome weather and take beautiful photos!
We also attempted a very lame flashmob, which ended up somewhat embarrassing, we had a good laugh!

How did the wedding reflect your personality as a couple?:  We just wanted to enjoy the day and celebrate our love with friends and family.  For us love comes in any shape or colour and that’s why we wanted our wedding to be colourful.

Your favourite moment of the wedding:  Difficult to choose, the whole day felt magical!

Any hints for other brides on how to keep your wedding budget friendly?  We decided to have a “pay if you go” wedding, which meant that every guest paid for themselves and their partners.  It was awesome, because everyone who really wanted to be there came and we were able to save a lot of money, without having to compromise on our dream-day.
